National Rifle Association

The National Rifle Association (NRA) was established in 1975. They are committed to preserving the right for law-abiding citizens to purchase, possess and use firearms for legitimate purposes. The National Rifle Association now has more than 4 million members who fight successfully for the rights of law-abiding gun owners. Once a restrictive “gun control” legislation is proposed at the local, state, or federal level, the NRA members and supporters are alerted and respond with letters, e-mails, and calls to their elected representatives to make their views known.

In 1986, the Firearms Owners; Protection Act was signed by President Ronald Regean. This made the National Rifle Association and millions of gun owners nationwide excited. Many gun lovers have worked hard for decades to pass a pro-gun reform legislation at state level. Combined with strong efforts of NRA members, and other state affiliated associations and local gun clubs, they were able to enact laws that recognized the right of honest citizens to carry firearms for self protection, preemption bills to prevent attacks on fun owner rights by anti-gun politicians, and to prevent the bankrupting of America’s firearms industry through frivolous lawsuits.

The National Rifle Association also is also involved in educating the public about the facts about firearm ownership in America. They provide facts about the responsibility of firearm ownership by publishing fact sheets, brochures, and articles annually about various topics. The NRA headquarters is located in Fairfax, Va., and has offices in Washington D.C., and in Sacramento, California.

The National Rifle Association is involved in any issue that directly or indirectly affects firearms ownerships and use. Topics that may be of issue are hunting and access to hunting lands, wilderness and wildlife conservation, civilian marksmanship training, and ranges for public use. They also deal with law enforcement issues, crime victim rights, and also criminal justice reform.
