National Basketball AssociationDr. James Naismith came up with the idea of basketball in 1891. It was a different type of sport, and was originally played with a soccer ball and two peach baskets. Though this sport was not widely known back then, it is now one of the greatest sports ever played. As a professor at Springfield College in Massachusetts, it was asked of him to invent a sport that could be played during the baseball and football season. Dr. Naismith knew he wanted to create an indoor sport. Therefore, he invented the game of basketball as an indoor game. Since then, because of him, basketball has soared into high popularity. Dr. Naismith developed an idea to begin playing basketball at the YMCA. He first began teaching it, and eventually this idea caught on. Later, colleges began to adopt the sport and make teams. Some of the first colleges that adopted basketball were Princeton, Harvard, Yale, and Cornell. These teams made up what is called the first intercollegiate basketball league. As time went on, the game of basketball caught on so fast, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) emerged. Get NCAA basketball tickets and watch a North Carolina basketball game. Basketball then became a professional occupation. The National Basketball Association (NBA) came about. It is the forerunner of modern basketball at its highest form. The National Basketball Association is a multi-million dollar business that has contracts, deals, and the best basketball players of all time. The Association plays a very significant part in college basketball, and in the NCAA. Many players who sign on as part of the National Basketball Association are drafted straight out of college. So the ones who prove themselves to be excellent players in the NCAA, have the great chance of being apart of the National Basketball Association. The National Basketball Association is the parent league of the Continental Basketball Association (CBA). The CBA serves as the developmental league of the NBA. The caliber of the ones playing in the CBA, are not of those ones who play for the NBA. However, the competition is still very intense. Being apart of the NBA are many children’s dreams. With great perseverance, and dedication, anything is possible. |
