American Medical AssociationThe American Medical Association (AMA) is an organization that is comprised of professional physician which was founded in 1847. The goals of the American Medical Association are to protect the interests of American physicians, advance in public health, and also support the growth of medical science. Not only does the American Medical Association support these organizations, they also are heavily involved in investigating alleged cases of medical malpractice. This association also participates in medical research regarding drugs, foods, cosmetics, and other substance. The American Medical Association is also involved in monitoring the professional ethics of doctors and other physicians. Another important aspect of the organization is maintaining medical education for physicians. The top legislative priority of the American Medical Association is to be actively involved at the federal and state level to secure commonsense medical liability reform. The AMA is constantly fighting for legislation that will fix Medicaid’s fatal fate. Over the next six years, Medicaid is expected to incur a twenty six percent decrease of Medicare physician payments. Constantly there is a fight for changes in the law that will reduce the effect of the proposed cuts on physicians. The American Medical Association also is working hard to expand health insurance and increase access the public health facilities to people. They are continually building political support for health insurance coverage to be available through tax and insurance market reforms. Because of so many issues at hand, the Association is aggressively pressing Congress and the Administration to reduce costly and counterproductive regulatory burdens that hinder the growing process of funded materials. The American Medical Association restores balance and fairness to managed health care reforms. This includes antitrust relief for physicians, allowing these doctors to practice quality patient care and increasing patient choice. By doing this, it dramatically strengthens state managed care laws. |
