American Dental AssociationThe American Dental Association is comprised of professional dentist who came together to form a professional society. It has a long and rich history, with its beginning in 1859 in Niagara Falls, New York. With its start of only twenty six dentists who represented different dental societies, the American Dental Association now has more than 152,000 members. Fifty three are state-territorial, while 545 or local dentist societies. The American Dental Association is the largest and oldest national dental association in the world. The American Dental Association headquarters is located in Chicago, Illinois, and its official office is in Washington D.C. Each location has more than 400 employees. The association has committed to the public’s oral health, ethics, science, and also professional advancement. Because of their devotion to their work, they lead a unified profession through initiatives in advocacy, education, and research of development standards. Not only does the American Dental Association fund grants for dental research, scholarships, and other important events, the association now supports Charitable Assistance Programs. These programs include relief grants to dentists, and their dependents that are unable to support themselves due to an injury, or any other kind of medical condition. Grants are also available to victims of disasters. The administrative body of the association is called the Board of Trustees. It is composed of the President, the President-elect, and 17 trustees, each from 17 trustee districts in the United States. The Treasurer and Executive Director serve as ex officio members. The President of the American Dental Association is Richard Haught, D.D.S., and the Chief Executive Officer of the association is Dr. James B. Bramson. Both men do an outstanding job in their positions. Currently the American Dental Association official publication is The Journal of the American Dental Association. They also formally recognize nine specialty areas of dental practice: dental public health, endodontics, oral and maxillofacial pathology, pediatric dentistry, and others. The Dental Association truly prides themselves on dental ethics and helping out fellow humans. |
